Corbin Library Receives Grant

The Corbin Public Library has been awarded a Public Library Facilities Construction Fund grant from the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives to expand the library by 4,517 square feet.

The library will receive $32,760 per year from KDLA for the next 20 years for a total of $655,200 to assist with debt retirement. Last year, the library board of trustees purchased an adjacent two-story building, referred to as the “Annex,” with plans to expand the current facility. The grant will allow renovation of the first floor of the Annex, creating an additional 4,517 square feet of library space which will house a large community room providing space for large events such as plays and musical performances, as well as an Internet Café and an exhibit area with gallery space for hanging art displays. The Corbin Public Library is one of ten Kentucky libraries receiving a construction grant.

The project is targeted to begin in September or October 2017 and be completed no later than spring of 2019. The total budget for the expansion project is $750,000.
