Corbin Student Places in Art Competition

A Corbin student is among the top three winners of the Fifth District Congressional Art Competition.

2nd place winning artwork “Summer Afternoon” by Ariel Cline, a senior at Corbin High School

Ariel Cline, a senior at Corbin High School, took second place with her watercolor painting entitled “Summer Afternoon”. The painting features Cline and her friends at a pond on a sunny day. In announcing the winners of the 2017 competition,Congressman Hal Rogers said, “our region has a number of incredibly talented artists, and this competition provides a way to highlight our students’ work on the national level.” First place was taken by Yedarm Lee, an international student from South Korea attending Somerset Christian School; and third place was taken by Emilie Loudermilk, a sophomore at McCreary Central High School. All of the artists will receive a Congressional Certificate of Recognition as well as a letter from Congressman Rogers.

According to a release from Congressman Rogers’ office, the Congressional Art Competition was initiated by Congress in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of young people living in their districts.
